Volunteering at PPHM comes in a variety of forms. Docents - the word meaning museum tour guide - show school groups through specific parts of the museum and narrate exhibits. Special event volunteers help with grand events like Christmas Open House, where volunteers hand out Christmas cookies to guests and dress in period clothing. If a particular area of PPHM is of more interest, volunteers can dedicate their time to a specific collection.
Continuing education is granted on a regular basis for all volunteers to learn specific characteristics of an exhibit and its artifacts, or about the museum in general.
