A NEW ENGLAND FAMILY GOES WEST: BUGBEE CLOTHING AND TEXTILES

Opening March 6
This exhibit will include a variety of clothing and textile items owned by Charles Herbert Bugbee, his wife Grace Dow Bugbee, their son Harold Dow Bugbee, and Harold’s wife, Olive Vandruff Bugbee.  The Bugbee family came to Clarendon from Lexington, Massachusetts in 1914 at the urging of Charles’ 2nd cousin, Thomas Sherman Bugbee.  They adapted to the local climate and culture and became important figures in their community.  Harold Dow Bugbee became the first Panhandle artist to actually earn a living with his art, and Olive Vandruff Bugbee was a well-recognized artist a well.

Bob Heinonen plays Travis, describing his adventures as the Commander of the Alamo. Based on the most current generally accepted facts about Travis and the Alamo, Heinonen’s monologue takes the audience through the ups and downs of Travis’s personal life from birth to death.  The 30-minute first person monologue will be followed by an epilogue consisting of a third-person perspective, Q&A and stories generated by the questions.

Admission is $5 for adults, $2.50 for children ages 3-11. PPHM members and WTAMU faculty, staff and students are free.
