On, On Buffaloes shows how the West Texas A&M Athletics microcosm has reflected the changes in national sports from the integration of African Americans to adding women’s events. Hands-on science and math activities add perspective to the skills and athletic ability needed for different sports.

Since it’s beginning West Texas State Normal College has seen many changes including its name five times over, but every student who walked the campus knows it as WT. PPHM celebrates the WTAMU Centennial with a diverse exhibit reviewing the first 100 years with memorable personalities, buildings, furnishings, and incidents that took place from 1910 until 2010.

A program designed for children 3 – 5 years old and all Kindergarten students, the week is divided into four days, each having a specific theme: Indian Day, Cowboy Day, Pioneer Day, and Nature Day. Each program lasts for one hour. Students will participate in hands-on activities, taste unique foods, hear storytellers, learn about early Panhandle history and play games. Register your student group or child for one day or up to all four days by calling (806) 651-2258.

The Pioneer Spirit Award recognizes individuals, families, businesses or organizations that exemplify the pioneer character. Recipients are those who have not only worked to preserve the past for future generations, but have worked to assume a better present for their fellow citizens of the Panhandle and the state of Texas. The 2010 event will honor this year’s Pioneer Spirit Award recipient, Sherman and Genie Harriman.

Hazlewood Lecture Hall

Master Gardener Angie Hanna explains the “7 Basic Principles of Gardening” with an emphasis on water conservation. Anyone can turn around a drab, boring, lifeless landscape when they adhere to established gardening principles and adjust them for climate and soil conditions.
The fee for the program is $3. Participants should enter at the door on the museum’s north loading dock. Bring a brown bag lunch; coffee and tea will be provided.
