REGIONAL HISTORY DAY
Museum-wide
March 7, 2009
Students in grades 6-12 are challenged to improve their research, analytical, and communication skills with this fun competition.  Participation in History Day supports teachers and students in meeting local, state and national educational standards.  History Day serves as a teaching and evaluation tool for the Social Studies Skills TEKS found at each grade level. It is a model that can be used to challenge students in pre-AP and AP courses, Gifted and Talented, and the Original Research Project option within the Distinguished Achievement Program.

“EXTRA!  EXTRA! READ ALL ABOUT IT!”
THE AMARILLO GLOBE-NEWS
Mary E. Bivins Gallery
Opening March 21
In honor of the 100th anniversary of the Amarillo Globe-News, an exhibit in the Mary E. Bivins Gallery from March 7 until September 27, 2009, will follow the history of the newspaper to the present.  Today’s Amarillo Globe-News is the lone survivor of more than 30 newspapers published in the city since its founding in 1887.  The exhibit will focus on the evolution of the newspaper, some important individuals involved in the newspaper’s long history, and major events chronicled in the paper.
